                                                                                   10 August 2023

Dear American Legion Morris County Post ,

When U.S. Service members take an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States, they do so knowing the tremendous risk of danger.  Throughout our nation’s history, more than 80,000 of our warriors have fallen to the demise of our enemy and who have been classified by the U.S. Department of Defense as Prisoner of Wars / Missing in Action.

Since 1979, our nation has called upon its citizens to remember those brave men and women who were imprisoned or perished on foreign soil by designating the third Friday of September as the National POW/MIA Recognition Day.  In support, the AVM has adopted a meaningful interactive POW/MIA 24 hour vigil as one of our annual signature events.

On Friday 15 September 2023 at 1600 (4:00 p.m.), the AVM’s POW/MIA/PTSD Remembrance Wall and Ascension Bell Tower will play an essential role in honoring these warriors.  Whereby as the global vigil flame is lit, the Missing Man Table is set, and trudging sounds of freedom echo in the background, the names, ranks and serial numbers of each missing warrior with ties to New Jersey will be somberly recited.

Your organization’s support of the recital of names is respectfully requested.  It is our hope to recruit readers from all of the AVM sponsoring organizations.  Participation requires only two representatives from your organization; one to recite names and one to ring the Ascension Bell.  If your organization is planning to reserve a time slot, please do not wait until the last minute, as reservations are based on a first come, first served basis.

This year’s vigil will also commemorate the family members who too were impacted by the loss of their beloved.  We will be promoting the AVM’s final phase, “The Military Child and The War Against Children” Monument.

Lastly, organizations that wish to provide a service, promote an event, and/or recruit new members may do so during the event by reserving a space.  The AVM will not provide tents or tables.   Attached is the 2023 POW/MIA Vigil schedule a Jpeg flier to be passed along or posted on your social media platform.  Please feel free to call me anytime at 973.479.4959 should you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns.  Thank you for your valuable time and kind consideration.

Respectfully, I am

Charlie Wood Uhrmann
AVM Founder
